How to configure Push Notifications for Android

On AppMySite, you can send unlimited push notifications to your app users. The feature is available for all apps with code version 1.7.0 and above.

To send notifications to your app users, you first need to enable notifications in your app build. The following steps explain the process of enabling push notifications on your mobile app:

To send push notifications to your app users, login to your AppMySite account and go to Download app.

Setting up push notifications for your Android app

Follow the steps below to send push notifications to your Android users:

  • Select the Build app button under Android. If you already have a live app on Google app, select the Rebuild app button.
  • You will see a new window popup with a toggle to enable push notifications. Enable the toggle and copy the bundle identifier.
  • To build an app with push notifications enabled, you need to enter the Google Firebase Server Key and Configuration. You will have to retrieve this info from your Firebase account. The following steps explain the process in great detail:
    • Create your Google Firebase account. If you have a Gmail ID, you can easily create a new Firebase account with a simple click.
    • After logging in, create a new project for your mobile app.
  • Once your new project is created, you will arrive on your Firebase dashboard.
    • Go to Project Settings and click on the Add app button in the Your apps section.
    • Select the Android icon in the popup. You will be next directed to a new page where you enter your Android package name (app bundle ID) and app name.
  • Enter the Bundle ID that you had copied earlier as the Android Package name.
  • Click on Register app when you’re done entering the info.
  • You will now see an option to download the google-services.json file. Download this file and upload it to the Firebase Configuration field on AppMySite.
  • Now return to Project Settings and select the Cloud Messaging tab.
  • Under Project Credentials, you will find your server key. Copy and paste it in the Firebase Server key field on AppMySite.
  • Select Build app when you have added the Server Key and Configuration. Your build generation will start and you can thus proceed to app submission to Google Play.
