How to create a Google Play developer account?

This article covers the steps to register for a developer account on the Google Play Store.
To publish Android apps on the Google Play Store, you need to create a Google Play Developer account. Follow the steps discussed below to register for the same.

NOTE
You must be at least 18 years of age to register for a Google Play developer account.

Step 0: Create your Google account and sign in

  • If you don’t have a Google account, start by making one. You can set up a developer account on Play Store with your Gmail address.
  • If you don’t have a Gmail account, create one and proceed to the next step.

Step 1: Accept developer account agreement

  • Login to Google Play Console.
  • Click on the Accept developer agreement checkbox.
  • Click on the CONTINUE TO PAYMENT. This will redirect you to the payment page.
Make sure you have your credit card handy to pay the $25 registration fee in the next step.

Step 2: Pay the registration fee

  • You’ll be redirected to the payment gateway where you’ll be required to pay the registration fee for the account set up.
  • The one-time registration fee is $25 USD. This can be paid with the following credit or debit cards:
    • MasterCard
    • Visa
    • American Express
    • Discover (U.S. only)
    • Visa Electron (Outside of the U.S. only)
NOTE
The types of cards and modes of payment accepted may vary depending on the location.
  • Enter the payment details that you will make the payment with
  • Click on BUY to proceed.

Step 3: Add details to your Developer profile

You will have to fill in the following details.

  • The first section will ask you to fill in the developer’s name. Ideally, you should give your company’s name in this section.
  • You will also be required to fill in your email address, website URL (optional) and phone number.

Step 4: Setting up Merchant Account (only for paid apps and in-app purchases)

You will be required to set up a Merchant Account if your app is paid, includes in-app purchases, or both.
